How to prepare for your Bridal Hair Trial Appointment

As your big day approaches, a bridal hair trial is the perfect opportunity to get an early glimpse of how you’ll look and feel on your wedding day. Together, we’ll explore styles inspired by your vision board and bring your dream bridal look to life. By this stage, you’ll likely have chosen your beautiful dress, and we can design a hairstyle that complements it perfectly.

The hair trial is a two-hour appointment where we’ll meet in person to discuss your wedding in detail and create up to two hairstyles you’re considering. It’s a chance for you to get to know me and feel confident that you love your chosen look. We’ll talk through your preferences— your likes and dislikes, how you like to wear your hair around the front, your inspiration etc and from this, I’ll offer recommendations based on your hair type, length, and condition on how to get the vest best out of your hair.

To make the most of your trial, I usually suggest trying one full style and wearing it for the rest of the day to see how it holds and feels. However, we can try two styles if you’d like. If you’re considering Hollywood waves, please note that I only provide this one style per appointment.

How to prepare for a trial

For your trial appointment, please wash your hair the day before and arrive with clean, blow-dried hair. Avoid letting your hair dry naturally, as this can create a layer of frizz that makes styling more difficult. I recommend coming with product-free hair unless you use specific products for frizz control or naturally curly hair. If you’re bringing hair extensions, be sure to wash and blow-dry them as well—even if they’re brand new—as they often have a residue that can prevent curls from holding properly.

To help you visualise your final look, I suggest wearing a white or neutral top, ideally with a neckline similar to your wedding dress, and applying makeup in a style close to what you plan to wear on the day. If you have any questions about how to prep your hair based on your hair type, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Need inspiration?

Take a look at my gallery to see some of the hairstyles I’ve created for inspiration. Also,  instagram and Pinterest are a good source for inspiration but it is important to mention here that most of the images you see on social media use clip in hair extensions which I do highly advise for your day. They are excellent for adding volume and holding a curl throughout the day. You may absolutely love an image online but until it’s created on your hair type you will not know if you love it, this is why I would always say yes to a trail appointment.

Do my bridal party members need a trial?

The bridesmaids/mother of the bride/groom don’t necessarily need a trial, however if they are really excited to have a trial or they feel nervous or anxious about having their hair done then they are more than welcome to book a trial with me to see the look before the day. If you and your bridal party member wanted to make a day of it and come together that is absolutely fine, maximum 1 guest at each appointment due to space and no children at these appointments, I want you to feel relaxed and the attention is completely on you in prep for your special day.

Other important trial information

My advice is booking a hair trial 8-16 weeks before your wedding date, this gives enough time for any tweaks to the style like hair colour, cut, etensions etc. I welcome trials before this, however its important to note that trends are changing all the time on socials, and this can easily make you second guess your chosen style, so i would stick to these timings, I hold trial appointments mid-week only between the hours of 8.45am-3pm in Goole, East Yorkshire. I don’t offer late night or weekend appointments as these are kept free for wedding bookings, so please base this in mind when future planning your bridal trial.
