Tips from a Bridal Hair Stylist for the Wedding day

The day you’ve been dreaming about, planning for and celebrating in the run up is finally here—and I want you to enjoy every single moment. It’s a day you’ll remember forever, and I feel so lucky to be a part of it. Being there on a wedding morning is truly magical, and over the years I’ve loved witnessing those special moments - bridesmaids seeing you in your dress for the first time, sweet mother-daughter moments, excited flower girls, and emotional dads holding back the tears.

On the day, I’ll arrive about ten minutes before our agreed start time to set up. All I ask is that there’s a chair in front of a mirror and a nearby so i can plug in my hot tools, everything else I bring with me. There’s usually a schedule for the morning to make sure everyone knows when it’s their turn for hair, and I always aim to have everyone finished around an hour before the ceremony. This gives you plenty of time to get dressed, take photos, and soak in those special moments with the people you love.

Top tips for a calm wedding morning.

  •  Create a feel-good playlist – Get the good vibes flowing with a playlist to enjoy while getting ready with your bridal party.

  • Steam dresses the night before – Avoid using steamers on the morning of the wedding as the moisture can affect how your hair holds and also affect the way makeup sits. Also, it’s a long job so don’t leave it till the wedding morning.

  •  Lay out your details for your photographer – Put your perfume, lipstick, jewellery, shoes, invite, and any other special items in one spot for your photographer. You’ll likely be in the chair when they need them.

  • Aim to be ready an hour before the ceremony – This gives you time for final touches, photos, and a moment to take it all in without rushing.

  • Don’t go last for hair or makeup – As the bride, aim to go second to last. That way, you’re fresh but not feeling the pressure of time.

  •  Free your mind – Do as much as you can in the days leading up to the wedding so your morning is calm, stress-free, and full of joy.

  • Delegate,– Let your bridal party take care of the little things so you can focus on enjoying your morning.

  • Stay in one room – Try not to move between rooms during the morning. It keeps everything in one place, setting up only once and removed unnecessary stress for the bridal morning.

  •  Have light snacks on hand – You might not feel like a big meal, so have some picky bits ready to nibble on to keep your energy up.
